On Appell sequences of polynomials of Bernoulli and Euler type

A construction of new sequences of generalized Bernoulli polynomials of first and second kind is proposed. These sequences share with the classical Bernoulli polynomials many algebraic and number theoretical properties. A class of Euler-type polynomials is also presented. © 2007 Elsevier Inc. Appell Sequences, Continuous Wavelet Transforms and Series Expansions

A series expansion with remainder for functions in a Sobolev space is derived in terms of the classical Bernoulli polynomials, the B-spline scale-space and the continuous wavelet transforms with the derivatives of the standardized B-splines as mother wavelets. In the limit as their orders tend to infinity, the B-splines and their derivatives converge to the Gaussian function and its derivatives...

Basic Sequences and Spaceability

Let X be a sequence space and denote by Z(X) the subset of X formed by sequences having only a finite number of zero coordinates. We study algebraic properties of Z(X) and show (among other results) that (for p ∈ [1,∞]) Z(lp) does not contain infinite dimensional closed subspaces. This solves an open question originally posed by R. M. Aron and V. I. Gurariy in 2003 on the linear structure of Z(...

Appell hypergeometric partial differential equations

Mathematicians often speak of the unity of their subject. Such a unity from the 19th century origins in the history of linear ordinary differential equations, especially those closely connected with elliptic and modular functions. It is concerned with the impact of group theoretical and geometrical ideas upon the problem of understanding the nature of the solutions to a differential equation (s...

Spatial encoding - basic imaging sequences.

This chapter presents the basic techniques for generating images with magnetic resonance. First, the usage of gradients for slice selection, frequency and phase encoding is explained. The concept of k-space is introduced and imperfections of the encoding methods are demonstrated by means of the point spread function. The most prominent imaging techniques based on gradient and spin echo signals ...
